BAK//RORDAM
Jan Rørdam and Frans Bak are both situated in Copenhagen and started playing music at a young age. Jan was in the pop field and Frans played fusion jazz – both started making music for commercials, TV-series and film – but since their music was in such different fields their musical paths never crossed – even though they knew of each other and carried a mutual respect.
That changed when Frans rented a new studio space next to Jan and they became neighbours. Suddenly the musical differences became an advantage, and they could share musical thoughts since they never felt any competition between them. A new friendship grew out of that – and they have shared several studio spaces since – and lots of talks about music and life. One weekend in Jan’s Swedish summerhouse with some friends, Jan played some chords on a guitar and Frans felt that it needed a piano melody on top. Returning to Denmark they met up and tried to explore this – and got so inspired that they during next couple of weeks wrote 7 new songs together and decided to go to Frans’ Danish summerhouse in Odsherred to record an album.
This became the album “The Odsherred Session” which they are both very proud . The recordings are a stunning collection of gentle, folky, neo-classical melodic piano and guitar tracks, influenced by some of their favourite places. Tracks Odsherred and Piksborg Bridge were released in September and November 2020, amid a number of small live shows in Denmark and they are eager to continue the mutual journey of BAK//RORDAM.
